Negative Space Write-Up

    As a form of art and photography, negative space is used to do many important things for the photograph. Normal pictures are taken usually with the intent to focus on the subject and it is supposed to be the center of attention. In a negative space picture or photograph the subject can still be the center of attention, but the background can be just as important and even the center of attention. Usually the subject and background are much contrasted. They are often different or opposite colors such as: black and white, red and black, etc. Both the foreground or subject and background can also be manipulated by the photographer to reveal more than one subject or a hidden image in the picture. Using this technique, a photographer can create a visually contrasting picture or real life photograph by color that also includes symmetry or asymmetrical images due to the forms and shapes of the subject(s) and background.
